Plywood Ends
Though less commonly used, you can order standard construction cabinets and have a plywood end applied to an exposed side. The advantage is saving the cost of a full upgrade yet still giving the appearance of full wood cabinets. In this scenario everything that is visible once the cabinets are installed is wood (the front of the cabinets and the exposed ends). This is an economical way to get a more expensive look.

FYI About Plywood
The cost for upgrading an average size kitchen to full plywood cabinets is minimal; $400 - $600 typically. You could spend twice that for just one custom cabinet.
Plywood Cabinets

One of the most frequently sought-after methods of customizing your kitchen cabinetry is to choose a plywood construction upgrade. This is a relatively inexpensive method of achieving a look that says, “These are not your run-of-the-mill cabinets”. Plywood is widely considered to be a stronger, more durable product than the composite wood materials used in most standard cabinets today.

With Marsh cabinets the plywood construction upgrade is available on all of the “framed” styles except the Aurora and the Fairmont. The styles that do offer the plywood upgrade are Belwood, Belwood Arch, Madison, Hillcrest, Brunswick, Parkwood, Parkwood Arch, Florence, Florence Arch, Woodland, Woodland Arch, Summerfield 1 Maple, Summerfield 2 Maple, Summerfield 1 Cherry, Summerfield 2 Cherry, Arcadia Maple, Arcadia Cherry, North Brook Maple, & North Brook Cherry.

It is important to remember that when you upgrade to a plywood cabinet the sides are no longer automatically finished. You will need to specify if there are any exposed cabinet ends in order to have those sides finished. A Finished Overlay End (OE), which is 3/16” plywood, will be applied.

Plywood Construction Specifications
Cabinet Box:
Cabinet sides are 1/2" with a natural clear coat sealed veneer on the interior and exterior. For exposed ends the addition of an Overlay End (OE) is necessary to match the cabinet finish. Please indicate which cabinet and which end (left or right) will need the overlay end attached.

Standard Drawers:
The standard drawer box for the plywood upgrade is a dovetailed plywood drawer with 1/2" birch plywood sides and 1/4" birch plywood bottom. The guides are side mounted, epoxy-coated steel.

Full Wood Drawers with Standard Glides:
You may still choose the full maple wood drawer upgrade. These drawers are dovetail constructed using 5/8” thick natural maple with a 3/8” maple plywood bottom (for sturdiness). The hardware is under mounted and considered to be ¾ extension.

Full Wood Drawers with Full Extension, Soft Close Glides:
With the full wood drawer you may also choose the full-extension hardware upgrade. The rail system used is the Blum Blumotion Tandem with Soft Close. Please note that the full extension hardware is only available if you have selected the full maple wood drawers.
